A designer's Home. 
When it comes to designer your very own house from scratch, there is so much more to think about, budget, style, materials, space, square footage, positioning of doors & windows,  the list goes on and on. Let's just say that from conception to final this home took over a year.
7 months  to design and 7 months to build. So basically the lesson learned: Is be patient, consider loads of extras and put in a lot of your own time. Was it worth it - YES and I would do it again.

Ile Bizard, Classic , Contemporary Home Major Design & Renovation

It's your typical home renovation story, besotted homeowners; a charming yet seriously outdated home long admired from afar.
While the renovation process was par for the course, the results were anything but predictable. 
My Clients purchased this home as a contractors build and lived  in it for 15 years,  they were looking for something more grown-up and sophisticated, and this house had the potential but need the help of the professionals."
"At first they thought they could transform the house by simply painting it, but the flow was all wrong, the spaces too small, and no storage. “With 2 young boys and a baby, my life is hectic enough to have to deal with picking up toys” Melissa says.
Soft greys and whites now prevail, replacing a profusion of jewel tones and black. Gold accents harmonious but never repetitive--lend their calming air to almost every room.
While updates were made throughout the first floor, heated floors, staining the existing wood floors to a warm walnut color, a much better distribution of recessed lighting, most structural changes were saved for the kitchen. We enlarged the opening between the dining and kitchen space and closed off the opening from the entrance hall way to the kitchen to create a full wall for the extra large fridge, double ovens, pantry and even a coffee station with a pull out shelf.
The original kitchen was tucked away in a corner and not utilized to its full potential. Dark, dated and miserable. Now it's where it all happens. It's a bright and happy room, a true Cooks kitchen and the perfect gathering space. It's by far the most used room in the house.

I love working with the Moroccan style, a rich palette of texture, pattern and vibrant colors. When I think of Morocco, I think of marketplaces and long gauzy skirts and curtains. I think of a hippie-living, of furniture inlaid with intricate patterns. Of elaborately patterned textiles that glimmer and reflect light. Tiles and screens with precisely punctured geometric patterns. Lanterns made of metal and colored glass. Comfort sitting on the floor - oversized pillows and poufs.  I wanted to transform this dated 1970’s home with the same personality as my clients, energetic, full of flavor and love for life.
The home owner’s request was to have a great entertaining area, a large kitchen for tapas style bar, rich elegant and fun furnishings, energetic color and textures, and yup you guessed it a little rustic charm to bring in the warmth.

Keeping the charm for a Westmount Kitchen

Karen-Sarah & Jason, a young couple, recently move to Montreal in Westmount.  Loving the charm & History of  a traditional home, they soon came to realize that our modern amenities do not coincide with a historical home.
From plumbing, electrical , appliances even hardware, we can truly say that times have change.
With today’s technology, materials and machinery, we can do just about everything, and that was exactly what we did. We conserved all the plaster & moldings that make this home architecturally pleasing but we modernized  the amenities and custom built the perfect  Traditional kitchen. We even changed all the windows & doors to fit our weather, but yet they look like they have been there through the test of time
11’-0 high ceilings, narrow space, many windows no Problem. TOC design has the turnkey solution.
We did 3 preliminaries and from there designed a forth. Once they saw the Renderings I could see that spark in their eyes, That’s when I knew that we were all on the same page.
The architectural drawings where completed as well as the millwork shop drawings. 
The estimates where accurate and all materials choices fit perfectly with their style.
We began Construction end of January & completed it in 4 weeks on time, and  way under budget..
The end result is breathtaking,
Karen-Sarah & Jason are so happy they are ready to tackle a new project.


Small kitchen - Big Island

Transitional Design with Rustic charm appeal. Clean lines, loads of storage, & a Touch Of Class.
Jennifer and Chris wanted to open up their living, dining and kitchen space, making it more accessible to their entertaining needs. This small Pointe-Claire home required a much needed renovation.
Keeping in mind their wish list and budget, I went to work on several preliminaries. I knew how much an Island was wanted in the kitchen, Although the kitchen was too small to accommodate an island and knowing that they did not want to make the dining space part of the kitchen. I decided to incorporate the kitchen Island as part of the living and Dining space. The heart of the home. Keeping in mind that taking down a wall would eliminate much needed storage. I wanted to bring the living and dining space as one and incorporate a feature wall showcasing a beautiful ethanol fire place for the living room and  an oversized painting and decorative elements at dining space. Some times in design we are forced to think outside the box, and in this beautiful space it worked.
Jennifer and Chris have since had many gatherings and are proud to call their house a home.

Veronique contacted me to design her kitchen, I worked on several preliminaries. She wanted us to open up the space between her kitchen and her den, and add character to the space without it being too trendy.

Traditional white kitchen with lasting appeal

This truly inspiring  traditional  kitchen makes  this magical space even more amazing, it takes just 5 seconds to obsess over the spell that is cast on this family space. One can imagine the cherished memories that will happen in the years to come.
When you first walk into the kitchen one is blown away with the counter, it’s rich tones and perfectly balance  waves  as if an artist pored his heart and soul to create this perfect harmonizing art piece. 
The tone of  this traditional kitchen really reflects years of entertaining and enjoying life and the center attraction of the furniture like island make a statement  that is unforgettable. Design elements such as the lower height counter with a bar sink make it a good place for rolling dough and other backing activities.
Talk about putting it to the max with the best appliances, from a 48” wolf cooking range, 2 dishwashers, well concealed to mimic cabinets, an over sized sub zero 36” built-in refrigerator, a 30” panel ready sub zero freezer, concealed hood with an artistic touch , but what truly makes it mark is the double sided custom wine fridge display with LED lighting inside showcasing the owners passion for fine wine.
It’s in the details, raised wood cabinet doors, lacquered in a soft white by Benjamin Moore CC-30,
The vaulted ceiling adds a depth of height and bring extra light into the space, the ceiling tiles in a rich bronze metallic finish and matching dark wood frame defines the eating area. the hardware adds definition and ties all the bronze elements together, but what truly pops are the details and the workmanship of the millwork, from the delicate details to the crown molding, stacked moldings and, fluted columns, using highest level of quality materials, workmanship  and installation truly makes this kitchen magical.

Hampstead full home design & renovation

If you where to ask my clients  "how did the renovations go” , they would probably say that they would go through the full process again. 
I met Evan and Amy in 2016. A young couple about to get married but even more so excited to design and renovate their dream home. We discussed style, budget and wish lists. It was pretty clear to me that this young couple new exactly what they wanted. 
I designed the home, gave them several preliminary designs, and “WHAM!” , they fell in love with everything that was proposed. Once the architectural plans were ready and approved , I knew that the construction  would have to be carried out by my best team. IVCO inc. Meticulous and really take their work to heart. Ivan and his team created a miracle . A truly magical and flawless construction. The renovation took 2 months, and was ready on time for my eager , happy clients. As the days came closer to completion the ear to ear smile on Evan’s face grew larger and larger.
Thanks to all that were involved excellent work as always, and big thanks to Evan and Amy for your patience and kindness.

Montreal West home gets a full make-over

Young Family full design - Hill Park Circle

After having discussed their three page “want and wish list,” I got busy with this design challenge.
Small house, small budget, and big dreams.
I suggested we make the underutilized large kitchen smaller. It’s not about cooking for this family but about entertaining, storage, comfort and kid proof. By doing this I was able to divide the kitchen space into 2 sections , a small galley kitchen, offset with a pair of French pocket doors to house a guest / office / quite time room. I did not forget about storage. In the dining room I created a large back bar for extra storage of the everyday & formal dishes, a large pantry space, well organized with pull-outs, and even an electrical outlet for the small appliances in order to keep the kitchen counters clean and cluttered free. I continued the back bar with a side bar dividing the dining and family room in to 2 spaces yet keeping the feel of the open concept. The custom made units are made of the same material as the kitchen but designed in such a way as to not make it look like a kitchen yet have a continuous flow through out. They also act as storage for every type of use in the home for adult use and kids toys. This space can easily be transformed from a kids play area to an adult family entertaining space.
The existing stair case was closed in, making this home look even smaller than it was. I wanted to open it up and class it up with wrought iron posts and wood banister. This stair case is the real architectural element to this home as it leads us to the 2ed floor and another floor leading to the roof top.
All the furniture and accessories had to be kid proof, fun and not fussy. All the furniture had to serve as double duty, “large coffee table for game night, storage and destruction proof, an over-sized sectional with a hid-a-bed and so on…”
Although the kitchen is small, we have maximized the storage space, d-cluttered the counters and organized every possible cabinet. By keeping the color pallet light and fresh, This small kitchen has a big bang.
Off the kitchen I was able to create a small but very practical office / study / guest room, by using small size double duty furniture, this 10’x 10’ room has all the amenities this young couple needs and adds value to the home with its 3+1 bedroom.

On the 2ed level there are 3 rooms; an over-sized master bedroom and 2 kids rooms. Even the kids got involved with their color themes. Kerensa, the eldest girl, wanted green and orange and Tristan, a vibrant, full of energy 5 year old, wanted blue. Again the design challenge of fitting everything into these rooms from the wish list was almost near impossible. Double duty Furniture, and layout was important, storage a must and homework space a necessary element for the future to give Mom a break.
Finally this leads us to the master bedroom. This young couple needs adult time, a space that they can retreat in from their very busy lives, a place they can be grown up in. Funny how this house was laid out; all the rooms are small but the master was more like a dance floor. I decided to add an island wall, dividing the space so that they could have the look and feel of a walk in leading them to on suite bathroom and using the opposite side the wall to house yet another dresser and TV. The bay window was the perfect space to add 2 very yellow swivel chairs to sit and relax and enjoy the peaceful view. Centering the bed with 2 small dressers instead of night tables not only gives more storage, but more surface as well as makes the space appear larger than it is. I wanted this room to be relaxing but cheerful as well, hence the yellow, It is like bringing the outdoor nature in to the room and blending it to perfection.

I have been told many times that I listen and I think this is one of my key success elements. But truly it’s getting to know and grow with families such as the ones residing at Hill Park Circle. Clients as such is what makes my job my passion.

Newlywed couple, Amy & Evan were excited to transform their very dated “stuck in the 80’s” home. When we first met I saw how vibrant and energetic this young couple was. I wanted to be able to create a fresh, clean and timeless home for them that would last through many years of  memories for them in there forever home. They came to me a strict budget, and compromises had to be made. The final result was exactly what they wanted and this happy couple is ready to start their new life. Mazel tov Amy & Evan.

A Young Family's Happy , Safe, Home

It was clear from the beginning that this couple was a match made in design heaven. Rebecca’s love for contemporary clean lines and, Cliff’s’ crush on modernism and all things tech and their shared desire to create a home that’s open, bright and uncomplicated has resulted in there rejuvenated dream home. 
When they first purchased this dated 1980’s home in the West Island,  they knew from the start that is had great potential. But the existing layout and  drab materials made it a challenge to move forward. Is there such a thing in today’s design of too much open concept? Yes.. With the over 20 feet cathedral ceilings heights, the infinity space between living, family , dining and kitchen. Made this space look more like a museum than a home. They came to me seeking advise but hesitant  as budget was low. After reflecting on the pros and cons I was able to submit 4 preliminary concept designs,  We took the best of all 4 and created a 5th . The time came to carefully implement the right materials , and negotiate construction costs. Rebecca and Cliff had a time frame of 2months as they where to take possession of the new home. We delivered there newly renovated home on time and on budget!  I recently saw this happy couple and 16 month old ruby enjoying their  dream home and already planning to make over there on suite master bathroom.


A Kitchen Remodel on a shoestring budget.
When it comes to kitchens, we understand that they are the greatest investment in your home.
But what if you could have what you want without breaking the bank.
This kitchen is a great example of just that.
Here are a few tips
If the existing layout is good, just reface the cabinet doors, don’t forget the sides. I like to keep a kitchen white, I find that by painting walls and adding colorful accessories can make a kitchen appear bigger, and if you ever get tired of the wall color, it is a lot less expensive to paint.
If going with an all white kitchen I highly recommend to lacquer or polyurethane the cabinet doors, by professionals, don’t just get a gallon of paint and DIY it, it won’t last. Don’t go with pure white, Unless you like the clinical look. My favorite color for kitchens is CC-10 by Benjamin Moor.
If your existing cabinets don’t go to the ceiling, I highly recommend to add the same color panels above and finish it with a crown molding, this will bring height and richness to your kitchen.
Lighting is the Key ingredient, to making things POP. High light your back splash, add accent lighting or decorative fixtures, If possible change your existing Halogen light bulbs to LED. All that yellowish light you once had will be pure white, this enhances the true color of your element, just remember that when choosing your materials, you should look at under the same type of lighting.
Don’t forget the details, add light valance throughout , this will finish off the look of your cabinets, choose a really pretty door handle, this is like the perfect accessory to that little black dress, choose a simple back splash tile, you can never go wrong with a subway tile, just jazz it up with a mosaic, this will give you the ”bling”, Yes the mosaic tile is an expensive feature, but in this kitchen I only need 2 tiles for the full kitchen.
I know I said that the lighting is the most important element, but in today’s resale value, most people really want hard surface counters, it can be granite or quartz, depending on brand, style or make, prices can vary quite a bit, So I would highly recommend your choose this material first, and then the tiles and paint colors. This brings us to a must, feature that new counter with an under mount sink and please change the faucet and add a soap pump, they are so practical, I know an extra expense, but these are items you can buy on sale before the Reno’s
In this kitchen I got lucky the flooring tile was neutral and would work with our new concept, I just tweak it by removing the existing border tile that was surrounding the kitchen island, and adding the same mosaic tile I used for the back splash, again this was more cost effective that changing the whole floor.
Appliances are the 2ed most important part of your kitchens, so this is when you must decide if it is worth the investment, In this kitchen we decided to stay with the existing appliances as they were only 3 years old, we did however remove the existing hood – fan and replaced it with a concealed fan. People are always asking “where is the fan?” yes it is true we lost storage in this area, as the doors conceal the hidden fan, but it was the perfect space to add a chalk board for notes or list. Just open the doors.
I also added a few custom elements to bring a contractors kitchen into a custom kitchen, without braking the bank, details like a shaker skirt behind the island instead of a flat panel, extra cabinet at the coffee station with posts instead of fillers, a new mini wine fridge, and moldings behind island instead of a toe kick. I also added an open niche box instead of a cabinet above the fridge with a mini recessed light to high light clients art .
Finally have fun with your accessories, just don’t overdo it, a few key pieces are all you need, get rid of the clutter on your counters.


Kitchen on a shoe string budget

Condo units 204 & 206 on Pierce street

This Condo unit got a full renovation, from electrical to the final details. When I first visited Mr. Miller's Condos in Montreal, it was in very bad shape, renters had destroyed the place and it was very dated. Mr. Miller was not able to sell his space as it was not only dated but in very bad shape. The total square footage of both units was 1900. We decided that the best way to enhance this very large space for a down town condo would be to divide into 2 units.
Each unit has it's own kitchen, living room, 2 bathrooms, 2 laundry rooms and 2 bedrooms. A full renovation was giving to building codes standards with updated materials and products. A true gem in the heart of Montreal.
